Delmarva ESA News - Friday, February 22, 2008 -
-----------------------The 2008 Mid-Atlantic Regional Surfing Championships will be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, April 25-27, 2008. Due to the outstanding performance of the following athletes during the 2007/2008 competition season, they have earned invitations to compete or to be an alternate in the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Surfing Championships! In order to receive a slot, competitors surfed in local events throughout the year to accumulate points. The competitors with the highest point totals in each division receive slots. The amount of slots that the Delmarva district receives for each division is based on the ratio of Delmarva district competitors compared to the total number of competitors in the Mid-Atlantic region. Also, each competitor must have surfed in at least 50% of the Delmarva ESA points events for their division in order to qualify. If you're not familiar with "ALTERNATE" slots, here's how they work: Slots are offered first to slotted surfers. If a surfer with a slot from any district does not enter the event or misses the entry deadline, then that slot becomes available to a paid alternate. This will happen before the event begins and the alternate surfer will be notified that he/she has a slot. The other way an alternate can receive a slot is if a slotted surfer misses his/her heat or decides not to compete after entering the event. If you are a paid alternate and don't get a slot, then the entry fee for your alternate slot will be returned to you. If you are the 1st or 2nd alternate in a division, then you have a pretty good chance of receiving a slot. The further down the list you are, the less of a chance you have for a slot. Even if you are very low on the alternate list, you should still enter. If you don't get a slot, your entry fee will be returned to you. The entry deadline is Friday, March 7, 2008... DON'T MISS IT! Entry forms for the following competitors have been mailed today (Friday, February 22, 2008). You can also download an entry form and more contest info right now... There are many jobs that need to be done throughout the year. Some are only during the contest day and others need to be done just before or after an event. We need a crew of volunteers to be in charge of each of the separate duties; equipment manager, set-up, check-in, membership, judging, heat timing/flags, tabulating, updating the results board, tear-down, hauling the trailer, writing press releases, updating points, sponsorships, accounting and entry form drop-off/pick-up from shops. PLEASE consider taking over one or more of these jobs! If you can help, please email delmarva@surfESA.org or call 410-641-3329.
